Gorman Files Bid for Re-Election for School Trustee
Kelowna, BC, October 10, 2014 – School Trustee Chris Gorman confirmed today that he will seek re-election as School Trustee for the Central Okanagan Board of Education.
“As a father of two young children – one in our education system and another soon to join next September – I want nothing more than a public education system that prepares all of our students for the 21st century and inspires them to contribute to society.”
Over the past three years, Chris has supported innovation in our classrooms, interacted with students and teachers to understand their needs, interests and ambitions, and tackled tough issues facing our education system and School District. Chris has been vocal in his support of student learning, acknowledging the important role of our teachers, and responding to the concerns of citizens.
“It has been an honour and privilege to serve as one of the four School Trustees from Kelowna,” Gorman said. “I will continue to work hard, to engage with our teachers, parents and students, and to continue to serve Kelowna and the Central Okanagan with leadership, energy, and fresh perspectives.”
Gorman has garnered broad support throughout Kelowna in his bid for re-election.
“Chris is a tremendous asset to our School District,” says Vice-Principal Doug Gray. “He is a dedicated member of our School Board and well respected in our community. We are fortunate that he has invested deeply into understanding the opportunities and challenges that we navigate in the best interests of our students.”
“I have witnessed Chris’ passion for making a difference. He brings true value to the Board. Chris has been available, informed, and thoughtful. I look forward to working with him for four more years and fully support his re-election bid,” says Tara Godwin, a Glenmore Elementary parent and active PAC member.
Gorman is running for School Trustee in School District No. 23. He has extensive professional, leadership, and volunteer experience in education management, business, politics, and not-for-profit organizations.
Gorman finished second in overall voting in 2011, picking up 8,025 votes.
Gorman is currently serving his first term as School Trustee on the Central Okanagan Board of Education where he has served as Vice-Chair and is currently Chair of the Human Resources and Staff Services Committee, Member of the Finance and Legal Committee, and Member of the School District’s Safe Schools Committee. He is a passionate advocate for anti-bullying, technology in the classroom, and experiential learning.
Since joining the Central Okanagan Board of Education, Gorman has been recognized for his public service. Earlier this year, Gorman was invested into the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller as a Knight of Honour.
